Will adrenal fatigue heal itself?

So many people today struggle with adrenal insufficiency and major fatigue issues, and it’s due to problems with their adrenal glands.

Adrenal glands are two sorts of thumb-sized organs that sit on top of your kidneys at the back of your flunk area.



What adrenal glands do

Adrenal glands secrete hormones essential for life. These include cortisol, aldosterone, adrenaline, and nor-adrenaline.

These hormones control different body functions, including

  • Blood pressure regulation

  • Salt and water balance

  • Blood glucose regulation

  • Stress response

  • Body metabolism

  • Sexual development

  • Balancing sex hormones

What is adrenal fatigue?

Adrenal fatigue occurs when your adrenal glands fail to function properly.

Eighty percent of people struggle with adrenal fatigue at some point in their life.

Common causes include

  • Chronic lack of sleep

  • Lack of exercise

  • Chronic high amounts of caffeine

  • Low body nutrients like vitamin B1, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin D

  • Chronic infection

  • Chronic stress

  • Chronic pain and inflammation

  • Chronic use of steroids like prednisone

  • Menopause related stress issues

Warning signs you have adrenal fatigue

  • If you’ve had enough sleep but you wake up still feeling tired

  • Overwhelmed and stressed

  • Anxiety

  • Trouble focusing and concentrating

  • Poor memory

  • Thyroid issue (Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's, Graves disease)

  • Weight loss plateau

Can adrenal fatigue heal itself?

Short answer NO

Long answer YES.

With no medication, there are a few things you can do to restore the normal adrenal gland function and heal from adrenal fatigue.

  1. Diet change

Top foods to avoid include caffeine, too much sugar, and hydrogenated oils.

Foods that support adrenal glands include

  • Those high in vitamin B1 and B12, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and vitamin

  • Coconut products like coconut oil, coconut milk, and coconut meat.

  • Olives and olive oil,

  • Vegetables, especially spinach, kale, and chard.

  • Seaweed (contains iodine and other minerals that can support the adrenal glands

2. Take supplements supporting the adrenal glands

  • Adaptogenic herbs - These help your body adapt to dealing with stress.

Examples include ashwagandha, holy basil, and liquorice root.

  • You may also include vitamin B complex, magnesium, vitamin D, and selenium supplements.

  1. Lower your overall stress levels

  • Get better quality sleep

  • Learn to avoid procrastination

  • Listen to soothing music

  • If stressed, start working on reducing the stress.

Get a sheet of paper and start writing all of the things causing you stress and work on rectifying them.

  • Engaging in exercises that help reduce stress like 20-30 min daily several times a week. These may include breath-focused exercises, mindful meditation, repetitive prayer, guided imagery, etc.

You might not eliminate all of them at once but reducing the triggers can help improve adrenal function and heal your adrenal fatigue.

  1. Schedule in a time of fun and joy

Doing things you enjoy can also help you overcome adrenal fatigue.

  1. Don’t be afraid to say no to unnecessary events.
